"I am a religious Modern Orthodox Jew and the Jewish culture/religion was one of the primary influences on who I was heading into University and the Scholars program. Prior to entering college the only community I had ever been a part of consisted solely of white, upper class, religious Jews. My experiences and relationships were restricted to this Jewish bubble, and although I loved it I knew it wasn't the best summary of what life can be. That's why my goal in the overall University of Maryland, and in the Scholars programs is to gain experiences and build relationships that are outside my comfort zone. I want to challenge myself by not only gaining a strong education, but also learning how the world looks from the perspective of people who come from drastic different backgrounds than me. I want to push myself to join clubs or organizations that I will look back on as a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to challenge myself by creating environments, relationships, and difficulties that I have not encountered yet. Overall, I believe University and the Scholars program offer the students the oppurtunity to explore many different paths and communities and my goal is to challenge myself by maximizing these opportunities." - 12/22/2020
